In the acute phase of spinal cord injury, systemic high dose steroid injection has been used widely. However, the effects of steroid for neurological recovery following the acute phase has been doubtful. We present 3 cases in which steroid injection to the brachial plexus was given following cervical spinal cord injury. Injections were performed at least 2 months following the initial injury and were given via the interscalene approach. Following injection, increases in motor strength and decreased neuropathic pain symptoms were reported in all 3 cases, and such improvements were maintained throughout follow-up visits. These cases suggest that motor improvement may be possible by local steroid injection after the acute phase in some cervical spinal cord injured patients.
